Combining Scalp Micropigmentation and FUE Treatments

Hair loss is known the world over and is also known for being notoriously difficult to reverse. There are several restoration solutions available, however, one of the most effective has to be a combination of both scalp micropigmentation and FUE treatments.

As a solution for hair loss, combining these two contemporary treatments isn’t for the faint-hearted. It also isn’t the cheapest restoration method. Yet, it is incredibly effective if you are looking for the créme de la créme including the cherry on top of it.

Anyone who has read any of our previous articles will by now know what scalp micropigmentation is. But in case you haven’t, it is a cutting-edge treatment that conceals the devastation hair loss brings. An SMP artist implants natural pigments lightly underneath the outer layer of skin using a machine fitted with a microneedle.

These pigments take the form of a series of tiny dots that resemble hair follicles growing under your skin. The result is the appearance of a closely shaved buzz-cut or in the case of diffuse thinning, it will add to the appearance of hair density.

What is an FUE Hair Transplant?

FUE is another way of saying Follicular Unit Extraction hair transplant. It works by small groups of healthy hair follicles that have been unaffected by pattern baldness being taken and grafted onto the needy zones. The procedure is a rapid outpatient one (generally speaking) and is performed under a local anesthetic. New hair growth is not instant and usually, the receiver will need to wait for up to four to five months post-intervention to see results.

FUE is becoming increasingly popular amongst the hair-loss community and is often the go-to choice when it comes to transplants. Follicular Unit Extraction differs from its closely run counterpart, the Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), in that the follicles are extracted in tiny punch-like holes instead of being harvested in strips. The advantage to the FUE method is that scarring, should future hair loss occur, is minimalized.

Combining the Two Treatments

If you are looking to receive the two treatments combined, it is advisable, to begin with, the follicular unit transplant first. Once you begin to see regrowth from your intervention then assessments can thereafter be made. It is crucial to leave this period as a scalp micropigmentation practitioner cannot find a best-fit solution until all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place.

Once you are in a position to receive your scalp micropigmentation treatment, you can expect each session of SMP to last anything between 2 to 4 hours. Anything from two to four sessions is a great benchmark to work with and there will be aftercare procedures that will need to be adhered to. The SMP aftercare guidelines will ensure the longevity of your SMP treatment.
